THE WASHINGTON WRITERS PUBLISHING HOUSE ANTHOLOGY
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Please read all of the following guidelines carefully. Submissions that do not comply with these guidelines may be discarded.
Eligibility: You must be a resident of the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia, or you must have a close connection to the ‘DMV’ area (born here, attended school here, or worked here for a significant time. Our press is usually dedicated to writers that live within 75 miles of the nation’s capital; however, for this special anthology we are opening our eligibility requirements.
Submission Period: March 1-June 1, 2020
Fiction: One story up to 2,000 words. Flash fiction encouraged.
Poetry: Please send a single file containing 3-5 poems (max. 7 pages)
In both cases, submissions should be typed using a standard legible font (i.e. the equivalent of 12-point Times New Roman).
Payment: One contributor copy. All works are eligible for editor’s awards of $100 and $50.00 in both fiction and poetry.
No revisions accepted after submission.
Only previously unpublished work will be accepted.
Multiple submissions are welcome, but each manuscript must be submitted separately, with a separate reading fee. Simultaneous submissions are permitted, but please let us know if your submission is accepted elsewhere.
The anthology is scheduled for publication in Spring 2021.
Include a brief cover letter. Be sure to list the title(s) of the piece (s) you are sending it and a 50-word max. biographical statement. Plus, please answer these questions in a brief response: How does your submission relate to our theme: This is What America Looks Like? Why were you inspired to submit it to our anthology? If selected, we may add these answers to your bio.

The Washington Writers’ Publishing House, a 47-year-old nonprofit, cooperative, all-volunteer press, seeks to bring together and support the creative work poets and fiction writers of DC, Maryland and Virginia. In 2022, WWPH will be back with its annual fiction and poetry awards for writers who live within 75 miles of the national capital. The award includes publication, a $1,000 honorarium, and launch events at the Politics & Prose Bookstore in D.C. and the Writer’s Center in Bethesda.
